<br />
<br /><br/>
<b>First Look: Meps Aglia Spinner</b><br />
This Mepps spinner looked very interesting because of its rainbow color pattern on the spinning blade. I don't have a spinner in this particular color scheme so I figured this would be a good addition to my tackle box. The hook, body and blade all look and feel solid. The most intriguing part of this spinner is the color pattern on the blade. It features colorful white and orange dots, that should make an interesting pattern when the blade is spinning. Middle body is a simple gold color round cylinder. The bright orange end tail near the hook is another nice touch that should make this spinner very good at catching fish. The spinning blade is attached on a needle thin metal wire which should let the spinner spin freely and evenly.
<br />
<br />
Weather is getting warmer and it's almost time for fishing again. We will see how this spinner performs on my next fishing trip.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-86394775353789427192013-04-26T11:59:00.000-04:002013-04-26T11:59:34.945-04:00Fishing Where the Fish AreWhen going fishing it is always important to have the right kind of lure for the fish you are trying to catch. But even the best lure will not produce strikes if you’re fishing in a spot where there is no fish. I did end up catching a nice Largemouth Bass last time out but that’s probably the lesson to take from my latest fishing trip.
<br /><br />
The lake I fish at has a good population of lake trout which am always trying to target but they were nowhere to be found. I used the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_softlures.htm?B0039YNRG8">Powerbait Floating Salmon Egg Trout Bait</a> to try to catch one but didn't get a bite all day. After setting up the bottom fishing rig I started with my other fishing tackle. I used everything from Mepps Spinners to Rapala crankbait but nothing seemed to work. The only lure that produced a strike all day was the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B003CUKIWA">Southbend Kast-A-Way Fishing Spoon with White Bucktail</a>.
<br /><br />
After trying my newer tackle like the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B0092GKL5C">wLure Blue Spoon</a> for about an hour and not producing any results I put on the Southbend Kast-A-Way Spoon. First cast produced no results, so I threw the lure back in. Second time also seemed not to produce much until the very end. When the lure was close enough for me to see it a Largemouth Bass striked it. It seemed like the fish was following it for a while and decided to bite it at the very end.
<br /><br />
I continued to throw other crankbaits, spinners and spoons for another three hours around that area of the lake but didn't produce any strikes. This area had plenty of rock like features which convinced me that bass and other fish would be lurking around. But I was wrong. A better strategy would have been to fish that area for about an hour and move on to a totally different spot on the lake. One of the hardest things to do when fishing is finding where the fish are. You can have the best lures in your tackle bag, but if the fish ain’t there you’re not catching them. So for next time, cover more ground will be the strategy.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-83086678142317691392013-04-05T09:27:00.001-04:002013-04-05T09:27:57.430-04:00New Camo Color Sufix Fishing Line<a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_line.htm?B009GYINWI" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiw0AyRWMGTu0P1FiJxOgGVkeYdC7Qornq_-DQQX0Wj0dgNIFhRSTZqpK7voKa3B3mRdZIKcqPHBMGq6wgiRKVRCceTD6BzlUDfRmgemqMDPLugnUTDkrsUf1Bw2q85Ua0HPfHX6NE1p8Y/s1600/Sufix_Camo.jpg" width="500" /></a>

Rapala announced a new camo color for its <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_line.htm?B009GYINWI">Sufix 832 Fishing Line Series</a>. The Sufix 832 Series is already one of the most advanced fishing lines on the market and the new camo color improves an already great product. Sufix camo line is somewhat different than some of the other camo patter lines. Some lines change colors at set distances but the Sufix Camo line sets its pattern at random. This makes the line very effective at blending it self with surrounding weeds, rocks, plants and other water environments. <br />
<b>First Look: Rapala Mini Digital Scale</b><br />
Rapala Mini Digital Fishing Scale is ideal for anyone who’s looking for a small type scale to carry around. It’s small enough to fit comfortably in the palm of your hand and the rubber like material feels soft to the touch. Overall the scale looks and feels like it's well made. One thing I noticed though was that the power button is not very responsive. You have to press the button in and hold it for a moment to get the scale to power on. But Rapala did get things right about this scale. The digital numbers are quite big and comfortable to read. The scale also seemed very responsive when something was weighted. So in the end the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_scales.htm?B006W9LB88">Rapala Mini Digital Scale</a> is a quality fishing scale that should be a nice fit inside any fisherman’s tackle bag.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-19801505354748983752013-02-22T19:07:00.000-05:002013-02-22T19:07:56.918-05:00New Crankbait Series from Rapala<iframe width="510" height="287" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CywGY49m0mg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
<br /><br />
Rapala has announced it's new line of Crankbaits. They call it the Scatter Rap®. According to Rapala this lure is able to scatter from one side to the next as opposed to just swimming inline when you retrieve the lure. It achieves this thanks to its new curved lip design. All the lures look great and I am sure picking one up when they go up for sale. Check out the Scatter Rap® Series Video above for more. <br />
<br />
It took the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_crank.htm?B009TZOLYS">wLure brand lipless crankbait</a> about three weeks to arrive from China and now it’s here. The shape and size of this genetic brand crankbait look ok at first glance. There is plenty of little rattling balls inside which make a lot of noise when you shake the lure. I counted eight balls all together. The fishing hooks look solid and they hang down nicely towards the bottom of the crankbait body. The colors are a little washed out, this is due to the translucent body. But overall this inexpensive crankbait seems to be a good deal considering it cost less than two dollars. If it catches some fish come spring then it will be worth it. Check out more details about this crankbait by <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_crank.htm?B009TZOLYS">Clicking Here!</a>
<br /><br />
<strong>Spring time 2013 Update</strong><br />
After having a chance to take this wLure translucent Crankbait out for a test I cannot recommend it to anyone. The transparent body of this crankbait is very cheap and it breaks easily. On my first cast the lure hit a rock without too much force breaking one of the hook connections and the front of the crankbait. So in the end it's more cost effective to keep the dollar fifty you'll spend on this lure and buy something much more durable. The summer tends to be slow when it comes to fishing for bigger fish. but fortunatly you still can enjoy fishing for smaller fish like perch and other pan fish.
<br />
<br />
Like usual I started out with bigger crankbait and spoons to try to catch something substantial. But after not getting anything for a while i decided to try something different.
<br />
<br />
<b>Lures to Catch Perch On</b><br />
<span id="goog_2076275274"></span><span id="goog_2076275275"></span>I started out with some spinners but still not a bite so I reached for a white twister tail fishing lure and after about three casts I had a perch bass on my hook.
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_softlures.htm?B007U3DP70" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="White Twister Tail Lure" border="0" height="100" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31CmPmtUtwL.jpg" title="" /></a></div>
<br />
After that I tried a variety of different spoons, crank-baits and spinners and towards the end of the trip I did hook a smallmouth bass. This time Gitzit fishing spinner did the trick.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spinners.htm?B003OBH5XW" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/3143HpX2YRL._SL210_.jpg" width="100" /></a></div>
The key to catching these fish was a slow lure retrieval. I saw that the twister tail had a really good swimming action even on slow retrievals as well as the spinners. So I figured maybe the fish don’t feel like chasing the lure today because of the heat. The strategy worked and I didn’t come home empty handed.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-86161426661167299842012-05-03T22:53:00.000-04:002012-05-03T22:53:07.413-04:00My Biggest Catch So FarIt seems to me that people in the US aren't too fund of fishing for carp. Whatever the reasons for that may be, I am not one of those people. Carp fishing is more relaxing as opposed to fishing for trout and largemouth bass where you have to cast out different lures and reel them back in. When fishing for carp you just set up a bottom rig and wait for the carp to bite.<br />
<br />
So that's what I did this past weekend and I happen to pull in a 6 lbs. carp. So far that is the biggest fish I caught. To catch it I set up a simple bottom rig with a weight freely attached to the line so that the fish don't feel much resistance. For bait I mixed some wheat cereal and I covered the entire hook with it which was about an inch in diameter. The carp seems to like it since I did get couple of bites but I did not hook a fish right away.<br />
<br />
But when I did it was a 6 pound carp. I almost tripped over my things when I saw my rod bend when the carp took the bait. But I got there in time to set the hook and I caught the fish. Reeling it in was exciting. Carp seem to be a strong fish and you can feel the power on the rod. But after tiring out the fish a little bit, I reeled it in and it's the biggest one I caught so far.<br />
<br />
I will definitely be carp fishing in the future.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-18301894428320179842012-04-07T20:47:00.000-04:002013-01-31T17:59:39.889-05:00Good Start to the New Fishing Season<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT5l2g_m5pEXIaxfhCk0zkGVMQwF_mx0_mg4uJJd4yc8GyybNohifr9rZEE1o5x1apt2PCzsYPRQmq4gF6f6BlXzTc_k_6PR4u48-53HUPa37xnOBckiC6ZupcbL6RwyuBNHe22lVEicM/s1600/IMAG0005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT5l2g_m5pEXIaxfhCk0zkGVMQwF_mx0_mg4uJJd4yc8GyybNohifr9rZEE1o5x1apt2PCzsYPRQmq4gF6f6BlXzTc_k_6PR4u48-53HUPa37xnOBckiC6ZupcbL6RwyuBNHe22lVEicM/s400/IMAG0005.jpg" width="196" /></a><span id="internal-source-marker_0.31872325989819017" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The
2012 fishing season on Kensico reservoir got off to a great start for
me. Usually I’m lucky if I catch anything at all at the reservoir, but
not this time. Largemouth bass were really hungry and I had the chance
to hook three of them.</span><br />

buddy and I got to the reservoir at around 7am. I reached into my
tackle box for the new stuff I acquired over the winter break. First up
was my new spoons. I gotta say they look better then they work. I cast
them out a couple of times and I observed the swimming action. They
did not have a smooth left to right bobbing action like other spoons.
No, this one sometimes bobbed back and forth and sometimes just twisted.
So I didn’t use it too much and of course I didn’t catch anything with
it. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />

crankbait I bought also wasn’t all that good but better than the spoon.
I noticed that it had a pretty convincing swimming motion. The
downside was that the lure is not heavy enough to sink and it only goes
down because of the lip on a retrive, so you can’t get it down more that about 6
feet.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Well
after trying out the lures I went for my regular <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B003CUKIWA">Southbend Spoon</a> with
bucktail to try to catch a lake trout of course. But instead the spoon
produced a strike by a Largemouth bass. It was a nice one. A lot bigger
than the one I caught last year. It was about 18 inches I gotta say.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">We
kept on fishing all day but no fish were biting, not until later on in
the afternoon. I happen to catch two more Largemouth bass at that time.
This time instead of the spoon I was using the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spinners.htm?B003OBH5XW">Gitzit Spinners</a>. These two
fish were about the same size as I caught in the first time.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">I
just want to talk about the two lures I used to catch the fish. First
the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B003CUKIWA">Southbend spoon with white bucktail</a>. This is a great spoon. This is
not the first time this lure has worked for me. It has a great swimming
action and the bucktail seems to be great at attracting fish. I would
recommend this spoon to everyone. I also tried out for the first time
the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_softlures.htm?B003OBH5XW">Gitzit Spinners</a> and they are also great. The spinner spins in the
water evenly and the lure has a great look to it. If your looking for
inexpensive spinners then the Gitzit are it.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Ok, so overall a great start and am hoping to be catching a lot more fish this season. Till next time.</span>Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-87886673129784052812012-03-16T23:54:00.000-04:002013-01-31T18:02:27.255-05:00Generic Medium Diving CrankbaitWhen it comes to crankbait there is many choices out there. So far my favorite crankbait is the <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_crank.htm?B001NXD0L4">Rapala Rattlin 05 Lipless Crankbait</a>, but the only thing I don't like about it is the cost. At about $7 for one, this baby doesn't come cheap. So the search is on to find less expensive crankbait that catches fish as good as the Rapala Rattler.<br />
<br />
After some searching on eBay I decided to buy this:<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDke7t0aGcUG6qsY2z0dc9JQp1mPOtFi4j34fKzQG9rNp-P7JjepGVG_tAzhe8QffID1akQ5Tq3iGB3MbaelP9rCuAz_4thJXgHtLnfu7UlbiHrqh9rSxN3CSMmXFrenovmdR4SR5lwvk/s1600/crankbait.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDke7t0aGcUG6qsY2z0dc9JQp1mPOtFi4j34fKzQG9rNp-P7JjepGVG_tAzhe8QffID1akQ5Tq3iGB3MbaelP9rCuAz_4thJXgHtLnfu7UlbiHrqh9rSxN3CSMmXFrenovmdR4SR5lwvk/s1600/crankbait.jpg" /></a><br />
It's a generic medium diving crankbait. I bought three of them for about a $1.30 each. I should be going fishing next weekend so I will have an opportunity to test it out. I'll post my performance report at that time.Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-69096123249654318462012-01-11T21:20:00.000-05:002013-01-31T18:02:51.328-05:00Keepin' Busy During Fishing Off Season<div style="margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: left;">
Winter time means pretty much no fishing for me as the weather in New York is too cold for me to enjoy fishing. So how is a fisherman suppose to stay happy during those months? Why, you got to buy some fishing gear of course and that's exactly what I'm doing.<br />
<br />
I lost some lures during prior fishing trips so I wanted to stock up on some cheap fishing gear that looked descent enough that it would catch some fish. So I went on eBay (of course) and looked around and here is what I found.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjACE6AuUNbb5H2153BjthsuBB-PSNQEfWO5iJiANeWVL7TAtMzQdEq0torwCMH1Jxe9NOzpHNnZD2uzJeBf0kFjAoEJasshcQ2G-njLg27T53jTUfWhheLw4k0BhybnaWXwu2hiacLs1I/s1600/P1110408.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjACE6AuUNbb5H2153BjthsuBB-PSNQEfWO5iJiANeWVL7TAtMzQdEq0torwCMH1Jxe9NOzpHNnZD2uzJeBf0kFjAoEJasshcQ2G-njLg27T53jTUfWhheLw4k0BhybnaWXwu2hiacLs1I/s400/P1110408.JPG" width="500" /></a></div>
<br />
It's a half ounce fishing spoon that measures a little more than 2 inches. The fish scale like pattern caught my attention in particular and was the main reason I bought a set of 5 of these. They were fairly cheap coming in at about .95 cents a peace.<br />
<br />
Now the only question is: will they catch fish? Let's hope the answer is yes. What do you think?</div>

<span id="internal-source-marker_0.016183332478074575" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Since
I bought my new fishing gear last week I’ve been itching to test it out
and I did get a chance last weekend. The fishing trip didn’t go
according to plan, however, since I came back empty handed, but I did
learn one important lesson.</span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Before
I get to the lesson, let me just describe what happened. I went fishing
with my friend like usual. Upon arrival at Kensico Reservoir I went
looking for shallow type of water with lots of rocks. This is because
Lake Trout like to be around that type of water this time of year. There
were couple of enticing locations that I decided to try out. </span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">It
all looked so promising. About every 15 minutes I either saw ripples in
the water, or heard a large splash made by a fish. That was proof that
there were fish where I was fishing. But none of them wanted to get on
the end of my hook.</span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Since
the fish were splashing a little farther than where I was, I decided to
get my new heavier spoons so I can cast longer and get to them. I
bought four different size spoons that weighed 1 oz., ¾ oz. and ⅝ oz.
and this is where I learned the lesson. The lesson was: when buying
casting fishing tackle, do consider the weight of the lure and the line
you are using. </span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The
spoons I bought were way too heavy for the fishing line. I had a 12
lb. line which snapped after couple of casts because the lures were too
heavy. I ended up loosing all four of the brand new lures that I bought
and not getting a single strike all day. </span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 15px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Well, I hope next time I’ll have more luck and am not buying heavy lures unless I have a heavier line on my spool.</span></div>Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-31744718694449700202011-11-15T19:21:00.001-05:002013-01-31T18:13:36.624-05:00My New Fishing Gear for Lake Trout<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span id="internal-source-marker_0.24783158631601543" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Last
trip left me kind of depleted so I decided to visit my local fishing
store and pick up some fishing gear for my next fishing trip. I’m still
trying to catch a lake trout so I wanted to buy some lures that would
be the most effective on landing one. Here is what I got. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Spoons
seem to be very effective on lake trout so I bought four different
ones. I don’t have a boat and am trying to catch lake trout from the
shore so I decided to buy a little bit more heavy spoons so I can cast
longer. Before I was casting out with 1/4 oz. spoons but those are a bit
too light and I can’t cast them that far. With these heavier ones I’ll be
able to throw them out about 20 or 30 feet more which will hopefully
increase my chances of catching my first trout.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">For lures specific to catching lake trout I went with:</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">1. Gold Color 1/2 oz. Hurricane Kast-A-Way Slim Mino Spoon with Green and Red Bucktail</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">2. <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B003CUKIWA">Silver Color 1/2 oz. Southbend Kast-A-Way Spoon with White Bucktail</a></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">3. Gold Color 5/8 oz. Hurricane Kast-A-Way Wobbler</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">4. Silver Color 1 oz. Hurricane Kast-A-Way Spoon with White Bucktail</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">All
the above are spoons meant for catching lake trout. Am casting from
shore so I went with heavier ones in 1/2 oz. to 1 oz. which will allow me to
cast my lure farther than with a lighter type of lures. I also wanted them to have a bucktail. I saw how the tail reacts in water and it seems to have a wobbling action that is sure to attract fish. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">But that’s not all. Fishing store I went to had some other stuff on sale. Here is some other items I purchased.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">1. <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_crank.htm?B000ZKNFVQ">Blaze Hardbait Lipless Crankbait</a></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">2. <a href="http://icatchfish.net/fishingsupplies.htm?http://astore.amazon.com/fishingsondej-20/detail/B0050GPAOK">Zoom Super Fluke Baby Bass Plastic Baits</a></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">3. <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spinners.htm?B003OBH5XW">Gitzit Radon Spinners 5pk</a></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">The
above lures are meant more for catching largemouth bass than trout but
the price was right so I decided to expand my arsenal a bit. </span><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">I
should be going fishing either this week or the next. That’s when am
going to have a chance to test these lures. I’ll let you know how I do
with them in my next post. </span></div>Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-41843669241954770802011-10-24T18:23:00.000-04:002013-01-31T18:08:25.310-05:00Red Colors Didn't Work as Planned<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span id="internal-source-marker_0.2914862120458461" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">My
latest fishing trip went according to plan but it didn’t have the
outcome I was hoping for. The plan was to use red color lures in the
mourning and then go with brighter colors in the afternoon. So as soon
as I got out by the water I reached for a red and black <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spinners.htm?B000EXMA6U">South Bend Spinner,</a> then a black and red plastic worm on a Texas rig, followed by
my brand new <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B0030CLE96">Northland Buck-Shot Rattle Gold Spoon</a>. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Unfortunately nothing worked. I didn’t get a bite for about an hour so I went into by
tackle box for some other lures. I got a strike on <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_spoon.htm?B003CUKIWA">South Bend Bucktail Spoon</a> but I couldn’t hook the fish. It just fell back into the water. </span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">After
couple of hours of fishing we decided to move to another spot. I saw
some fallen down trees which looked very promising. After trying all
types of spoons, crankbait and other lures around the trees and not
getting anything, I went for plan B. I setup a bottom rig with two live
worms and opened up a fresh can of beer. I caught a seven inch Yellow
Perch after some times so I guess plan B worked somewhat.</span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Ok,
so my strategy didn’t work this time around. I think the problem was
locating the fish. So for next time I have to work on finding the fish
first and then on what type of lure to get them with.</span></div>

<span id="internal-source-marker_0.04584774597505836" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Last
time when I went fishing I wanted to catch a lake trout but instead I
got my first largemouth bass. This weekend am going fishing again and
the goal remains the same as last week: lake trout. I’ve done a little more
reading on how to go about it and here is my plan.</span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">Last
time I started out early in the mourning with a gold color
spoon. I hooked a small fish, which looked like trout, with it but it escaped (see earlier post).
Based on that I decided to buy another gold color spoon in hopes it will
work better. The spoon I went with is a <a href="http://icatchfish.net/dt/dt_softlures.htm?B0030CLE96">Northland Buck-Shot Rattle Spoon</a> and I have a good
feeling it will work great because of the rattling effect.</span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">My
latest reading has also led me to believe that early in the mourning
red colors show up better. First thing in the mourning, I will try a red
and black spinner and some red plastic worms I have. Later on in the day
I’ll try my other crankbaits, spoons and spinners. Let's see if I'll be able to hook a fish this weekend.</span></div>Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-22857607890367695422011-10-15T17:34:00.000-04:002011-10-16T12:04:57.706-04:00How I Caught My First Largemouth Bass<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span id="internal-source-marker_0.2018819152060639" style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">When
learning about fishing or watching fishing videos people always say how
exciting catching largemouth bass is. As a beginner fisherman I’ve
never had the experience of catching one until this past weekend when I
finally hooked one. Here’s how it went down.</span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span></div>

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">My
friend and I decided we were going to go fishing. So we packed up and
left early Saturday mourning for Kensico Reservoir. I like going fishing
there since it’s only 40 minutes from NYC. Not only that but there’s
lake trout in Kensico Reservoir and that is actually the fish I wanted
to catch. We got there early in the mourning about 6:30am. The sun just
started to come up but it was still dark outside. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;"></span></div>

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">When
we got by the water I decided to go with a bright type of lure since it
was still dark. I pulled out a gold color
<a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003OBIN92/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sondej-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B003OBIN92">South Bend Kast-A-Way Spoon.</a> I
heard trout like to go for spoons. I casted it out couple of times and I
actually hooked a small fish on it but it fell off the hook before I
could get a good look at it. It might of been a small trout about six
or seven inches. I kept on casting out spoons of different color, sizes
and shapes. My goal was to get me a trout. But after about two hours of
trying I haven’t got anything so I reached into my tackle box for some
other lures.</span></div>

reached for the <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001NXD0L4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=sondej-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creative=399373&creativeASIN=B001NXD0L4">Rapalla Rattler 05 Lipless Crankbait</a> which I purchased
recently. It’s a light blue and white lipless crankbait with a BB
rattler inside. I casted it out couple of times and nothing, but I was
impressed with the movement it made in the water. I told myself that
I’ll cast it out maybe once more before I’ll move on when over a sudden
it happened. </span></div>
<div style="font-family: inherit;">

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">I
got a strike. So I pulled back on my fishing rod and started to reel
in. As I did, the fish leaped out of the water. My first thought was
“this has to be a largemouth bass” because I know they like to put up a
fight. My reel was loose enough so that the fish could take off as much
line as it wanted and this bass did just that. The reel kept on lousing
line as I was pulling the fish in. When the it was about 6 feet from me
that’s when I was sure I caught my first large mouth bass.</span></div>

<span style="background-color: transparent; color: black; font-size: 11pt; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; text-decoration: none; vertical-align: baseline;">I
pulled it out of the water. It was about 12 inches long and I would say
about a pound or so. Maybe it wasn’t the biggest large mouthbass in the
world but it was big enough as the first bass that I caught. Let’s see
if I can get something bigger next time.</span></div>Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2625735862783868440.post-48013400916252604162011-10-07T13:51:00.000-04:002011-10-07T19:46:41.841-04:00In the BeginningI want to welcome everyone to "The Green Angler" blog. For my first post I'd like to tell you all what this blog will be about, so here it goes.<br />
<br />
Am a fisherman from the New York area. I've been fishing for about three years now so I consider myself a beginner. The point of this blog will be to document my progress as I, hopefully start becoming better at fishing.<br />
<br />
I mostly go fresh water fishing but am not limited to one kind of fishing. In later posts I'll discuss the equipment am using and or purchased for my fishing trips. Then every time I go out fishing I'll make a post about it and tell you guys what type of fish I caught and how I did it.<br />
<br />
So far the biggest fish I caught was a 19 inch pickerel. I'm not sure how much it weighted, but am thinking anywhere between 1 to 1.5 lbs. Besides that I caught some brown trout, perch bass and some pan fish but nothing bigger than my pickerel.<br />
<br />
So hopefully there will be bigger fish in my future. I should be going fishing this coming weekend so another post will come shortly. Simon S.http://www.blogger.com/profile/17729713052053177164noreply@blogger.com0
